Habitat for Humanity Europe & Central Asia Global Village Resource Guide for Education and Development Case Studies for Primary and Middle Year Students June - November 2010

Habitat for Humanity Europe & Central Asia Global Village  ECA Global Village works in coordination with over 50 international schools in creating opportunities for involvement with HFHI through GV school builds.  Increasing interest from the international school community in integrating HFHI’s work into the classroom of Primary and Middle year students who do not meet the age requirement to participate on a Habitat GV build.  This has prompted ECA Global Village to formulate a way to support the growing demand for development-based educational materials within schools while increasing participation in both HFHI volunteer and donor activities. Background

Habitat for Humanity Europe & Central Asia Global Village  Increasing demand for diversification of educational material addressing international topics within international schools.  How do we best help educate today’s globally minded student? HFHI’s Education Initiative which directly supports the strategic plan for  Brand name awareness throughout Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.  Increase in volunteer and donor base. International schools can present an ideal market. Needs Assessment

Habitat for Humanity Europe & Central Asia Global Village  5 main objectives were identified for the creation and implementation of the resource packet. 1.To create a useful classroom resource pertaining to development that is geared towards use within the international school curriculum. 2.To raise awareness about the mission of Habitat for Humanity. This includes the effects of Habitat’s work that reach far beyond poverty housing and provide a strong building block for successful sustainable development. 3.To encourage youth in the primary and middle year school programs to be advocates for sustainable development. 4.To provide an opportunity for Habitat to engage these youth in fundraising activities. 5.To build interest and excitement within the international schools about the Global Village volunteer program.
