2 The Rwanda Education NGO Coordination Platform (RENCP) seeks to improve children’s education in Rwanda through coordinated service delivery, collaboration, and advocacy.

4 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT
# 4.1 By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes. Relevant RENCP member contributions: Supporting quality improvements through teacher training and support in areas such as: Training teachers on learner centered methodology & inclusive education for children with disabilities Improving pedagogical practices for literacy instruction Helping teachers become reflective practitioners Increasing the effectiveness of school leadership & management in areas such as: Training HTs and deputies on following teaching and learning in their schools Helping HTs & PTCs to work more collaboratively Training PTC leaders to be effective in school support programs & addressing drop out Contributing to the technical development of National Policies and Programs in areas such as: Supporting the CBC development and implementation, including training Drawing on experiences to input on the development of revised policies (e.g. TDM Policy) 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT

# 4.1 By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes. Recommendations: Successful implementation of the TDM policy Need for CPD structured time and content for teachers and school leaders Strengthening English Language Ensuring consistent and sufficient investment in primary and secondary education, especially in quality related areas Strengthening of supervision and accountability Informed use of LARS results (GPE variable tranche indicator) 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT

# 4.2 By 2030, ensure all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for pre-primary education. Relevant RENCP member contributions: Increasing access to quality early childhood services, such as: Establishing model early childhood development centres in communities and schools Training early years’ teachers on play-based methodologies that enhance children’s school readiness skills, including foundations for literacy and numeracy Raising awareness with district officials and communities on the importance of investing in early childhood development Developing pre-service curriculum and supporting the training of TTC students on early childhood methodologies Piloting alternative approaches to school readiness services, such as: Training parents on ways they can help their children at home to acquire early literacy and maths skills Increasing availability & access to high quality learning materials, such as age-appropriate books, in community 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT

# 4.2 By 2030, ensure all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for pre-primary education. Recommendations: Provision of salaries for pre-primary teachers Provision of capitation grant for pre-primary to ensure classrooms have adequate, age-appropriate teaching and learning materials Introduce in-service ECE training Strengthen pre-service ECE training Introduce parenting education in support of ECE Prioritise free access to pre-primary for the most vulnerable (GPE variable tranche indicator) ECE teachers/care givers should be trained in welcoming children with disabilities in partnership with parents 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT

# 4.5 By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations. Relevant RENCP member contributions: CBC Review core team formed to advocate for girls’ issues Technical assistance to the: development of Girls Education Policy, strategic plan, and girls’ room guidelines under way development of a national IE teacher’s guide, IE teacher training manual, the SNE tool kit, and the Special Curriculum development of a specific curriculum for learners with intellectual disabilities Through supporting centers & teachers; visually impaired, deaf children & children with disabilities integrated into mainstream schools Identification, referral & support services: 100 people with disabilities Issue of 788 wheelchairs and 11,186 shoes 886 people sensitized on rights to education for children with disabilities. 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT

# 4.5 By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations. Recommendations: Dissemination and effective implementation of IE and SNE policy  Clear budget lines for education funding to SNE Effective implementation of IE as a cross-cutting issue in CBC Effective implementation of the new Special Curriculum  Improved monitoring (through parental and community engagement) and disaggregation of data on children with disabilities in and out of education. Improved CPD and pre-service training on IE and SEN 09/11/2018 PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT
