CROSS TOWN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT Randy Butler – FHWA

C-TIP Goal To develop and deploy an information sharing / transfer capability that enables the coordination of moves between parties to Maximize loaded moves and Minimize unproductive moves in the Intermodal Transportation Network.

Potential Cross Town Improvement Project (C-TIP) Interchanges Scalable and Transferable Rail-to-rail: cross-continental moves Port-to-rail: where on-dock rail facilities do not exist Port-to-truck: port to distribution centers Airport-to-truck: airport to distribution centers Red Dots identify locations for cross town opportunities

C-TIP Operating Scenario WDU ! IMEX Deliver CT RR 2 Deliver CT RR 1 Deliver to Industry Pickup CT RR 1 Pickup CT RR 2 Pickup Industry RR 1 Real Time Traffic RR Containers Identified to move Intermodal Exchange (IMEX) Wireless Drayage Updating (WDU) Real Time Traffic Monitoring (RTTM) Dynamic Route Guidance (DRG) C-TIP Components

WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT ITEMS The Cross Town Improvement Project will improve the following: 1)Congestion / Environment – 22 % Improvement in reroutes from DRG 2)Efficiency of the transportation network 15 % Improvement in eliminating the empty trip 3)Energy consumption
