9. Road - Tennessee Employment: In 2010, the trucking industry in Tennessee provided 182,840 jobs, or one out of 12 in the state. Total trucking industry wages paid in Tennessee in 2010 exceeded $7.4 billion, with an average annual trucking industry salary of $40,430. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in May 2010 that truck drivers, heavy, tractor-trailer and light, delivery drivers, held 71,010 jobs with a mean annual salary of $32,995. Small Business Emphasis: In 2011, there were over 9,370 trucking companies located in Tennessee, most of them small, locally owned businesses. These companies are served by a wide range of supporting businesses both large and small. Transportation of Essential Products: Trucks transported 80 percent of total manufactured tonnage in the state in 2010 or 626,633 tons per day. ∗ Over 91 percent of Tennessee communities depend exclusively on trucks to move their goods.

13. FRATIS – What is it? FRATIS – a high-priority, transformative application identified by USDOT in 2011 through its Dynamic Mobility Applications (DMA) Program.. DMA Program: – Phase 1 – Phase 2 The FRATIS Concept: – Leverages freight mobility information technologies from the private sector in the areas of: freight traveler information, dynamic routing, and load matching. – Integrates private technologies with public sector ITS (i.e., traffic information and sensor data for roadways in major metropolitan regions). – Accelerates public-private deployment of FRATIS Applications. FRATIS Applications: – Freight-specific Dynamic Travel Planning and Performance: Traveler information, dynamic routing, highway system performance monitoring – Intermodal Drayage Operations Optimization : Combines container load matching and freight information exchange systems
