How God reveals himself to us and how we respond.

Scripture “The Christian faith is not a ‘religion of the book’ (CCC 108).” Rather, Catholicism is a religion of the Word of God, which is Jesus Christ who lives always and forever. Sacred Scripture is the INSPIRED & INERRANT Word of God Inspired means that God Himself guided the authors who wrote the books of the Bible. Inerrant means does not err. So, Sacred Scripture always teaches the truth, never error. Primary Ways God Reveals Himself

Tradition “So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.” 2 Thessalonians 2:15 The Magisterium helps the faithful, us, to understand Scripture. The Magisterium is the teaching authority of the Church and it is infallible. Infallible means that because of divine help, the Church cannot teach error in matters of faith.

Because of God’s love for humanity, he chose to reveal Himself, and to let himself be know to us. After the fall (original sin of Adam and Eve), God taught the human race to acknowledge Himself as the one living and true God, a father, a just judge, and the promise of salvation. Through Abraham, Moses, the prophets, etc. Fullness of revelation in His Son, Jesus. God present to humans as fully God and fully man. With Jesus’ words, deeds, signs, wonders, death & resurrection as God’s Word to us. Came to save us from sin and death and raise us up to eternal life. Dei Verbum Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation

Because God reveals Himself to us, we are to respond with an “obedience of faith.” We must commit our whole self freely to God – offering our mind and will to Him. To make this act of faith, we must first receive the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit. It is through the gift of faith that we will grow deeper in our understanding of God’s love for us. St. John Paul II gave us two examples of people in Scripture that live with an “obedience of faith” Abraham and Mary Dei Verbum continued… Our Response
