Boonville High School Freshman Enrollment Presentation

Enrollment Reminders Freshmen Orientation Parent Night is Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Boonville High School in the gym. All parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Summer School at BHS May 26-June 24 (4 day weeks/3day weekend) 8:00am-12:00pm Health (1/2 unit—required) Turn in form starting March 12-April 10th

Credit BHS works off the semester concept. One-half (½) unit of credit is awarded for any course that meets 48 minutes per day for 18 weeks. All credit is granted by semester. Students must pass 6 classes each semester to be eligible for extracurricular activities.

MSHSAA and BHS Eligibility All incoming Freshmen are eligible for 1st Semester extracurricular activities. A student must pass 3 units of credit during 1st Semester in order to be eligible to participate in or attend extracurricular activities (sports, dances, clubs, prom, etc) during 2nd Semester. Credit is awarded on the semester concept. Each class is equal to ½ credit. Do the Math: ½ credit x 6 classes = 3 units You must pass 6 classes!

Graduation Requirements To graduate from BHS students must earn 24 credits. The following is required: Communication Arts 4 units Social Studies 3 units Mathematics 3 units Science 3 units Fine Arts 1 unit Practical Arts 1 unit Physical Education 1 unit Health ½ unit Personal Finance ½ unit Electives 7 units Total 24 units

Graduation Honors The Cum Laude System was adopted to encourage students to pursue a strong academic program. This program exceeds the minimum standards outlined for graduation. Classes must be from the academic core. Students who complete this program of study, along with maintaining the specified grade point average, will receive a high school diploma awarded: Cum Laude - 3.5000 - 3.7499 GPA Magna Cum Laude - 3.7500 - 3.8999 GPA Summa Cum Laude – 3.9 - 4.0 GPA

History, Civics) 3 units Mathematics (Algebra I and higher)* 3 units Science (Physical Science and higher)** 3 units Core Electives*** 3 units Fine Arts 1 unit Practical Arts 1 unit Physical Education 1 unit Health ½ unit Personal Finance ½ unit Electives 4 units Total 24 units *Algebra IA and IB will equal one unit of Math credit to fulfill honors requirement, but will count as 2 units of credit toward graduation. **Elemental Physical Science and Elemental Biology will equal one unit of science credit to fulfill honors requirement, but will count as 2 units of credit toward graduation. ***Core Electives can be earned from CA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and foreign language. Embedded credit will not count toward graduation honors.

Grading Scale The grading scale used for all students in the Boonville School District. A 95-100 C 73-76 A- 90-94 C- 70-72 B+ 87-89 D+ 67-69 B 83-86 D 63-66 B- 80-82 D- 60-62 C+ 77-79 F 0-59

Teachers will recommend placement in core classes. Study Hall Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, all students will be enrolled in a 25 minute Study Hall/Advisory Period at the end of the school day. No Study Halls will be offered during 1st-7th hours. Students will enroll in 7 courses each semester. Additional information about the Advisory Period will be shared with students at a later date. Today’s time is to discuss class enrollment for next year.

Program of Study

A+ Program The A+ program is designed to provide tuition for students to attend any community college in the state of Missouri. To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements: Attend an A+ school for 3 consecutive years. Graduate with a 2.5 non-weighted accum. GPA. Have an attendance rate of 95% for the four years. Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring in a school sponsored activity (12.5 hours can be job shadowing). Maintain a record of good citizenship, and avoid the use of drugs and alcohol. Achieve a score of Proficient or Advanced on the Algebra I EOC test. 2 of 3 units of math must be Algebra I and higher. Algebra IA and IB will count as one unit of credit toward the A+ math requirement. 2 or 3 units of science must be Physical Science and higher. EPS and EB will count as one unit of credit toward the A+ science requirement.

Enrollment Reminders Mathematics, Science, Communication Arts, and Spanish I classes must be signed off by a teacher. Students must pass the classes currently enrolled in or those classes failed will be repeated. Algebra I taken in 8th grade does not receive high school credit. Incoming freshmen may take Personal Health during summer school.
