Risks Assessment Impact Probability C2 4T1 3C1 2T2 1T3 November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design C1: Product Interest- The customer may still not be enticed to provide new content and the site becomes outdated again. Impact: The content will grow stale and the website will be in the same state it is in now. Mitigation: There is not much we can do on our end other then provide the best and easiest to use tool to encourage use after we hand it over. 33

Risks Assessment Impact Probability C2 4T1 3C1 2T2 1T3 C2: Maintenance - If the new website runs into major issues the Virginia Academy of Science may not have anyone with the technical expertise fix them. Impact: The result could be as simple as broken pictures and links, to lost data or total site failure. Mitigation: Again this can be assisted by a simple to use site. Also the Virginia Academy of Science has suggested hiring an intern after launch. November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design 34

Risks Assessment Impact Probability C2 4T1 3C1 2T2 1T3 November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design T1: Software Updates- Browser, Java, adobe and other plugin updates Impact: Updates to dependent software could cause pages to load incorrectly or not at all and damage security. Mitigation: Make sure the website is dynamic and easily updated for new software. 35

Risks Assessment Impact Probability C2 4T1 3C1 2T2 1T3 November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design T2: Secure systems- With the introduction of the database and the online applications for memberships/grants/scholarships there will be private data that is at risk of theft. Impact: Results in theft in member data and could result in identity fraud. Mitigation: Follow strict security guidelines so that members and applicants are given the safest environment possible. 36

Risks Assessment Impact Probability C2 4T1 3C1 2T2 1T3 November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design T3: Data Loss- If the new database should fail then a considerable amount of important data could be lost. Impact: Worst case scenario, if the servers fail then all the data that populates the front end is lost and the website becomes emptied. Mitigation: Ensure a redundant backup system that keeps data in a secondary location incase data loss should occur. 37

Conclusion November 20, 2013CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design 38
