Since the last conference… NEIL

Go live at the 3000th practice NEIL

EMIS Web: England’s most popular primary care clinical system NEIL

KLAS report EMIS Web rated highest of all GP systems Scored highest for support Rated easy to use Rich in functionality – including search and reports and community functionality SHAUN Segway to next slide – user engagment (to Qinnovation) Details: KLAS interviewed providers from 102 GP practices to offer greater transparency into supplier system performance. Which suppliers lead in system functionality, service, training, and up-to-date technology? Independent review. Web Web is EMIS’ go-forward, hosted platform. It rated highest of all fully rated GP solutions, and customers are satisfied with the platform overall. As one provider said, ‘The program is very easy to use. It has a lot of functionality, including functionality for community health services. Also, it gives users the ability to write very powerful searches and reports. And I like the ability we have to provide a patient interface.’ [Page 20] EMIS scored highest for their support due in part to their support staff. One provider stated, ‘EMIS has been doing this for such a long time, and they are pretty solid. We are able to interact with engineers who go around to the individual practices and they stay until everything is sorted out. It can’t get any better than that. We have complete continuity.’ [Slide 11] Most Customers Remaining with Their Incumbent for the Long Term PCTs (primary care trusts) and CCGs (clinical commissioning groups) often choose between several government-accredited suppliers for new software, but those retendering generally remain with their incumbent and look at upgrading their software. Despite complaints of lacking functionality and support, over 90% of customers reported that their current supplier was part of their long-term plans. [Slide 15] 5 5

QInnovation Partnership between EMIS and the UON £10,000 grant towards research projects Two winners in 2013: Dr Walter - use the QDiabetes tool to improve detection of diabetes among 100,000 patients in the local CCG Professor Sheikh - evaluate the safety of varenicline among smokers with COPD. Launching 2014 award today - Google ‘QInnovation’ Across any domain - acute, CCMH, CCGs SHAUN SEGWAY – encouraging from all aspects – acute, community and CCG projects. Talking of CCGs. http://www.qresearch.org/SitePages/QInnovation.aspx This year’s winners: Berkshire GP Dr Tim Walter and Glasgow GPSI Professor Aziz Sheikh will each receive a £10,000 grant towards their projects and access to the QResearch database. The GPs won the inaugural awards from QResearch, a partnership between software company EMIS and the University of Nottingham. Dr Walter's project will use the QDiabetes tool to improve detection of diabetes among 100,000 patients in the local CCG. His aim is to develop a best practice toolkit to help other CCGs. Picking up more cases of undiagnosed diabetes would also raise QOF income. Professor Sheikh, who works at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, will evaluate the safety of the smoking cessation drug varenicline among smokers with COPD or similar lung conditions. These patients may be more susceptible to possible side effects.

CCGs – what it means to us Uncertainty Budgets Relationship building Opportunity Joint objectives to provide core GP system CCG strategy and EMIS We’re learning as CCGs are learning Development roadmap Wider responsibilities NEIL Message: - landscape very different than 2 years ago. - supporting the change positively. DETAIL: Uncertainty The CCGs didn’t get their budgets at the same time So we didn’t get paid for 8 weeks – putting our cash flow at risk. In terms of relationship building, new contacts for us to build relationships with, or existing contacts were trying to get to grips with their new jobs and suppliers were the last thing on their mind. Opportunity A lot of engagement came from the fact that we had a joint objective to provide an incumbent essential core service to GPs – can’t do without their operating system We’re trying to work out where we fit in to CCG strategies – some have their strategies worked out, some don’t know yet where they’re going. We’re learning as they’re learning what their strategies are – our world has changed as their world has changed. It’s changed some elements of our development roadmap – standardised templates and data entry, data audit, QOF performance, search and reports are important to CCGs Supporting CCGs that don’t immediately have the capacity or manpower that PCTs had – seconded project managers, intensive training etc.

Interoperability Interoperability between all healthcare sectors Examples of where the MIG is delivering benefits in a local health economy: Record sharing Discharge summaries Clinical correspondence NEIL The MIG is a national interoperability solution delivered locally, connecting any healthcare system within a healthcare economy.   Uniquely we provide connectivity to virtually all UK primary care systems. This gives Healthcare Gateway’s customers unparalleled, secure access to the whole-life health records of nearly all of the UK’s population. By mobilising this data via the MIG, healthcare providers are able to deliver safer, more efficient care. Healthcare Gateway has become a recognised industry standard for interoperability with a significant and growing number of suppliers
