Exercise 1 In pairs discuss why Teaching Assistants should continuously develop and improve their practice.

What do we mean by SMART? Specific:identify what you want to develop – skills or knowledge. Measurable:Define criteria that can be used to measure – how do you know if you have achieved it? Achievable:avoid being too ambitious Realistic:be honest about what you want to do and can do. Time-Bound:realistic framework

Complete a SMART What do you want to develop? How will you know if and when you have achieved it? Is it achievable? How do you know? When will you achieve it by?

Identify Strengths List at least 5 skills that you have – what are you good at? What personal attributes – qualities do you have? What will you offer a school/setting?
