Teachers will not let children go unless it is in the book or they have been told. Children must bring their reading record, reading book and signpost books everyday. PE in Key Stage One The focus this term is Games. Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school which is clearly labelled with their name. Please label each individual item of clothing. Year One – Wednesday Year Two- Monday afternoon and Thursdays for swimming. Water Bottles & Snacks Please ensure your child brings a water bottle that is clearly labelled with their name. How you can help your child at home Reading You should hear your child read at least 3 times a week. Ensure that you ask your child questions about what they have read for example: What does the author/ illustrator do? Who are the characters in the book, what are they like? What was your favourite part of the story? Children need to understand what they have read, as well as being able to read the words in the book. Encourage your child to sound out any unfamiliar words aloud. Maths This term we will be focusing on the 4 number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Please practise the following skills with your child: Counting forwards and backwards from any given number. Writing numbers. Number bonds to 10 and then 20 ( =10, 7 +3=10) Recognising the 4 symbols. Adding 2, 1 digit numbers together then 2, 2 digit numbers. Subtracting 2 small numbers away from each other to find the difference. Then use larger numbers. Literacy During this term, the children will be reading a variety of fiction and non fiction books. Please practise the following with your child: Forming all letters correctly on a line. Name all letters using their letter name (A, B, C) Writing a simple sentence using a capital letter and full stop.
