Response to Recommendations R ECONNECTING S TUDENT AND A CADEMIC A FFAIRS

Step 1 The Executive Cabinet of the Chancellor along with the Retention Counselors have implemented collaborative strategy sessions in order to monitor progress and ensure the improvement of retention rates.

Step 2 Retention staff and the Director of Student Retention and Success conduct weekly meetings around the installation of those strategies and best practices for improvement of the University’s retention figures.

Step 3 All parties have committed to creating an atmosphere of open and constructive communication between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to keep SUNO students in good standing with the University.

Blackboard Connect The Office of Student Affairs purchased and utilizes the Blackboard Connect® system to provide information to students throughout the year.

Blackboard Connect This system allows SUNO to directly contact students via traditional and social media outlets, creating increased opportunities for communication between the University and its students.

University Communications The Center for Student Retention and Success also works with University Public Relations on mass s, flyers and other materials that create awareness regarding retention programs.

Vendor Partners Southern University at New Orleans currently has no physical bookstore on its campus. It has however connected with local bookstore vendors to ensure that its students have ready access to textbooks.

University Center With the anticipated reopening of the University Center in the Fall of 2013, SUNO will once again be able to provide a full-service bookstore for its students.
