We welcome you to the MKES Family and we anticipate a great new year. Our staff at MKES is dedicated to lifelong learning and we hold high expectation for all stakeholders.

Behavior Policy In terms of the behavior policy we would stick to the basics from our discipline policy that will be mailed out to parents the first week of school don’t not bring toys to school no chewing gum we keep our hands to ourselves (no hitting, kicking, punching or pushing) listening and following directions in order to be safe no weapons or anything that could be used for a weapon In terms of basic expectations – as teachers we expect the following: our students to come to school everyday/on time ready to learn students to complete homework students to follow classroom rules students to work hard, listen to directions and complete their work students who are fair, kind to each other and who work at being good citizens

Homework Policy Students have homework four nights a week, for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. homework Spelling homework will be done bi- weekly. Writing and reading homework will be sent home on alternate weeks. Math homework will be sent home daily. M

Grading Scale Most grades assignments are graded on the 1-4 scale. 1-Minimal Understanding 2-Developing Understanding 3-General Understanding 4-Complete Understanding

Data Notebooks Data Notebooks are to show data of your child’s progress. They are sent home to be reviewed with parents each quarter. Please review and send back the Data Notebooks as soon as possible so that we can add new data.

What can I do to help? Please help your child learn his/her: –full name –address –phone number and keep a card with this information in the backpack Please make sure we have all current phone numbers –Cell phones –Home phones –Work phones –Emergency contact information Please help your child be at school on time each day. Please look at information that comes from school

Volunteers Needed Volunteers are an integral part of MKES. Here are some things you can do to help: Volunteer in the classroom to help students or teachers. Volunteer to help our other staff. Volunteer at school events. If you are unable to come into our school than you can volunteer at home by having your child’s teacher send home items you can do at home like cutting art supplies or folding papers.

Other ways to help your child: be at school every day be on time every day look in your child backpack every night. make sure your child knows his/her: – full name – address – phone number
