LETS Governing transitions towards Low carbon Energy and Transport Systems for 2050

Lunds universitet / Fakultet / Institution / Enhet / Dokument / Datum Recent development Global greenhouse gas emissions increased by 70% between 1970 and 2004.

Lunds universitet / Fakultet / Institution / Enhet / Dokument / Datum Change is possible! Energy supply for the production of district heating between (K. Ericsson)

Lunds universitet / Fakultet / Institution / Enhet / Dokument / Datum LETS Starting point: It is technically and economically possible to make the transition towards a low-carbon society. Now we must identify pathways to implementation. Aim: To identify, explore and suggest ways that Sweden can implement low-carbon energy and transport systems for 2050, in order to reach the ambitious climate policy objectives suggested by the 2°C target. Form: A multidisciplinary research program Expected results: To produce new knowledge, but also to synthesize and interpret existing knowledge for more informed choices by decision makers, planners and other stakeholders.

Lunds universitet / Fakultet / Institution / Enhet / Dokument / Datum Research areas LETS consists of six research areas or work packages: WP0: Future Policy Scenarios and Alternative Pathways –Which alternative pathways lead to a low-carbon society? WP1: Governance – Developing Institutions and Policy –What type of governance, in terms of institutions and policy, are needed? WP2: Urban and Regional Planning and Infrastructure –What tools, instruments and recommendations are necessary to (re)organize the built environment and transport system? WP3: Markets, Industry and Policy for Bioenergy –What are the sustainability challenges, commercial opportunities and policy options involved in governing the transition to increased use of bioenergy? WP4: Citizen-Consumers and Voluntary Instruments –What type of voluntary policy and planning instruments will contribute to behavioral change among citizen-consumers? WP5: Logistics and Goods Transport –Which logistics and freight transport configurations result in low carbon dioxide emissions?
