IGeLU Oxford Sep 2014 Bart Peeters Head of LIBIS

Agenda Why Alma? Where are we? Highs &Lows

Why Alma LIBIS is service provider for libraries, archives and musea. For libraries we operate 3 networks – LIBISnet (KU Leuven, Colleges, National Bank of Belgium, …) – PBS (public library network of province Vlaams-Brabant) – OpenVlacc (central catalogue for Flanders) Experience with library software => LIBIS became Alma development partner To consolidate and streamline workflows and the backoffice softwares.

Where are we? We just went live on July 15 & August – In 2 clusters – We have 33 Alma institutions live (31 institutions + a Network Zone institution and a sandbox) 2009: development partner Testing … testing … testing 2012: change management sessions with library management team of KU Leuven 2013: Network Zone, train-the-trainer, ILL workshop, testconversion, recruitment of Alma experts, …

Where are we? 2014: – March-April: workshops & demo’s, preparing documentation – May-June: training by the “Alma experts” 400 librarians About 30 sessions (most of them hands on) – July – August: final migration in 2 clusters – August – September: 10 “follow up” sessions and extra training – September-October: new start up working groups

Where are we? We try to settle down at the moment … NOT – 3 Alma certified administrators … more to come – 50 calls at hotline – 500 issues in the helpdesk (80% solved) 25% Resource Management 20% Acquisitions 25% Fulfillment 15% Primo 15% Other (user management, printing, …) – STP + list – Upcoming mergers of Alma institutions … – Reference visits – …

Highs & Lows Lows – Migration Only one real test migration Data migrated as is Vendors migrated only once (at test migration) – Network Zone functionality too limited at the moment – Performance – Different teams/people: implementation, development, migration teams – STP + list

Highs & Lows Highs – Alma Analytics – Search (persistent search box, advanced search) – For librarians: simple tools/interface to run jobs – Fulfillment: Follow up of reservations Fulfillment configuration utility – It’s getting better every month
