Objectives Define a master page Describe the benefits of using master pages Have an understanding of the common documents containing master pages 2Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Page Layout & Design Now that you understand the basic fundamentals of page layouts, we can now explore some of the more advanced and powerful tools that most printing companies utilize. 3Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Master Page A master page is a template that contains repeated elements which can be applied to multiple pages within a document. 4Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Time Management Asset Imagine that you are creating a chapter layout for a book, and every title page needs to look identical. Now imagine that the book has 15 chapters, and it takes 20 minutes to create each title page. Instead of creating individual title pages for each chapter, you will create one master page. In this instance, it will save you 5 hours of time! 5Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Benefits The benefit of a master page is that you only create a template once. Once complete, the template can be applied to numerous pages. Another benefit to master pages is that once you edit a master page, the change will apply to the entire document. 6Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Items You can have multiple elements on a master page. The most common are Text frames Graphic frames Guides Graphics 7Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Multiple Masters The amazing thing about master pages is that you can have multiple master pages within the same document. Using the previous book example, you could create a template for the Chapter Titles, Graphics Pages, and Text Pages. All your pages will flow and look the same, allowing you to save a lot of time.
