Fast ForWord in British Columbia Update: April 14, 2011

Fast ForWord Use in Consortium Schools in British Columbia During the school year, fewer than 250 students used the Fast ForWord products. By the school year, the number of Fast ForWord participants had increased more than 400% to 1,208. Since August, 2007, more than 3,000 students in Consortium Schools in British Columbia have used the Fast ForWord products.

Fast ForWord Use in British Columbia On average, students used the products for 43 days with 74% of the students completing a product. Average attendance was 72% which corresponds to missing nearly three days every two weeks (protocols call for using the products 5 days a week). Average participation was 92% which corresponds to missing about four minutes each day they are in attendance for students using the 50-Minute Protocols.

Impact of Fast ForWord Use on Students at Consortium Schools 1,836 students were assessed with Reading Progress Indicator before and after using the Fast ForWord products. The students ranged from kindergarten through high school, with an average grade level of early fifth grade. At the time of the first assessment, students’ skills averaged at the mid-third grade level (approximately 1½ years below grade level). In the 3 ½ months between assessments, students’ average improvement was one year and one month.
