Saturday School Enrichment Program Administrative Services June 17, 2013

Purpose Provide our students and our school’s the opportunity to offer and participate in extended learning opportunities (enrichment activities) that provide academic assistance and materials missed during an absence. Recover Average Daily Attendance (ADA) revenue for students who were absent from school for truancy and/or absences, whether excused or unexcused. Absences due to suspension are not recoverable revenue. Improve annual attendance rates at each school site. Provide our students the opportunity to remove an absence from their attendance record. This allows the student to remain as a candidate for outstanding attendance.

Program Structure Seven Saturdays. Four hours each session (8:00 a.m. to noon). Student-teacher ratio of 30:1. Each site is staffed with two certificated employees and a custodian (split shift). Sandra Amatriain is the administrator on duty. Students are served a meal. All school sites have the opportunity to participate.

Student Participation Attendance clerks or other designated staff at each site identify students that have a truancy or an absence in the weeks prior to the Saturday school session. Invitations are sent to targeted students. These must be returned and entered into Q/Zangle to determine the staffing needed and the number of meals to be served. Students can sign up for a session on Saturday morning. All students in grades 3 to 12 are welcome to participate regardless of their attendance history. JUSD only recovers ADA for students with a truancy or absence in the period prior to the Saturday school session.
