Inform families about Bellview’s Title I Program Provide an opportunity for feedback Learn about your child’s curriculum and share a wonderful meal

4 A Wholistic Approach Literacy Math Time in schedule for intervention & enrichment – separate from reading block Trained Educational Assistants on specific programs used at Bellview Language Arts curriculum aligned to common core standards Focus on best instructional practices and common core math curriculum Time in schedule for intervention & enrichment - separate from core math block Computer- based IXL program to support teacher directed instruction and at- home practice, in addition to their Core math instruction

5 A Wholistic Approach Social Skills Family Involvement Every classroom participates in social skills lessons every week Semi-annual all school “Expectation Stations” Small group social skills practice Positive feedback for doing the right thing and instruction when mistakes occur PAX and MindUp curriculum to help students understand how their brains work and how to create a more successful environment Family involvement nights focused on academics and supports for parents PTO or school-sponsored Fun Nights once per month Academic feedback to parents at least four times per year through report cards and conferences Attendance rewards for students

7 Systems in Place At Bellview, every student is assessed in the areas of reading, writing, math and behavior three times per year We use this data to plan for teaching and support Students who receive extra support will be assessed more frequently to be sure our strategies are working

8 More Systems Bellview uses a Positive Behavior and Intervention Support (PBIS) program to support successful behaviors at school We use a referral system that allows us to track both student and adult behavior and teach students how to do the right thing Positive reinforcement for positive behavior is used as often: Bobcat Tickets, Life Skills awards, attendance awards, lunch drawings

11 The Importance of Attendance
Regular attendance is crucial to a child’s success in school. “Adequate” attendance is considered to be 92% or more, meaning a student should not miss more than 9 days in a year. Chronically Absent students (missing 10% or more of school) in Kinder and 1st grade have a 17% chance of meeting reading expectations by 3rd grade By 9th grade regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores Habits formed in elementary school carry over into higher levels of education and the work force
