3 Carolina Forest International Elementary Eagle Academy The concept: Provide supplemental student support by extending the school day - facilitated by licensed teachers who provide tutoring, resources and homework assistance for students without parental support/involvement. Program goals: Create opportunities for academic success with at-risk students Improve student proficiency Build academic confidence

8 Feedback Student Students reported that they received homework assistance, assistance studying for assessments and had access to online remediation tools such as Study Island 100% of students reported that they felt more confident in class 100% of students reported that they hoped to have the program again during 2012/2013 37% of students reported that they would have liked more 1-1 assistance, smaller group size Teacher 36 students were too many to be truly effective – a smaller group for 2012-2013 was recommended Provide supplemental study skill instruction

9 Cost Analysis Students received an extra 157 hours or 22 days of instructional support Personnel was free – altered hours of 2 certified staff members (8:30-4:30 as opposed to 7:30-3:30pm) Transportation was $4,000 – bus was only utilized by 50% of students – a cost of $222 per student (overall) or $13 per week/per student for 17 week program. Not all students took advantage of bus transportation on a daily basis. 2012/2013 program will be offered without transportation. Parents will be required to provide transportation.
