Things that happened at birth  Was born in Pleasant Point Ohio  Was born on April 27 th 1822  Was the first child of Jesse Grant and Hanna Grant  Had two more brothers and three sisters in George Town

Things that happened during childhood  Hiram was his real name  He was called Ulysses by his parents  He did not like working in the tannery with his father  He enjoyed farm work and taking care of horses

Things that happened in the army  He was enrolled in West Point Academy as Ulysses S. Grant even though that was not his real name  He never changed it because he was worried he would be made fun of for his initials H.U.G  After Military Academy he enrolled in the army and was a second lieutenant and fought in the Mexican War Leaving the army  After the Mexican War he left the army  He soon married Julia Dent and they were very happy  They had a total of four children  He worked as a farmer and business man but was not very successful.

He rejoined the army in 1861 to fight in the civil war He rose to the rank of a general for the Union very soon In 1864 President Lincoln made him head over all Union armies He then led the Union to a victory of the civil war
