2. Ulysses S. Grant was the eighteenth president of the United States of America. Ulysses was first elected in 1869, after the Civil War, and held office until He served a second term from 1873 to Ulysses became a member of the Republican party in 1868.

3. Hiram Ulysses Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, on April 27, His parents were Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson Grant. The family moved to Georgetown, Ohio the next year. There, Ulysses went to city schools and helped on his father’s farm until he was 17 years old. Then, he went to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. He was accidentally entered as Ulysses S. Grant. Ulysses was a great horse rider, and showed some interest in mathematics. He graduated in 1843 as 21st in his class with a rank of quartermaster.
