Year 9 Design Technology Homework Task Sheet Situation: The Olympic games is a fantastic sporting event which brings together a number of countries and cultures to compete in what is the biggest spectacle in the sporting world. The event starts with a huge opening ceremony that is shown on TV across the world. All countries that compete showcase their culture at the ceremony and present their athletes to the rest of the world. Task: You have been asked by the organisers of the Olympics to produce research and designs for a new promotional product for the 2012 Olympic games. The product will be used to promote the event The product you design will be designed specifically for the country that the athlete represents and will have some cultural influence within the design. The product will be based on the option that you have chosen to study for GCSE – Food, Graphics, Product Design, Resistant Materials or Art. Brief: You are to choose a country and culture that you wish to design a product for from the list on the following page. Once you have decided on a country you need to do some research on the culture of that country - you need to research the following: The colours and design of the flag Any symbols that represent that country (i.e. dragon – China) Any other landmarks/buildings/famous people that you could use as part of your design (Eiffel Tower – France) Some key words that represent that country (‘ole’ – Spain) After you have completed the research you need research some promotional products that could be used to promote a sporting event. These products need to be linked to your chosen option subject – the following pages will give you some ideas
