Energie-Cités European cities inventing a desirable energy future 200 members from 30 countries »Representing 1,000 local authorities A Board of Directors of 11 countries: Presidency of Heidelberg (Germany) An international team: 18 staff, 12 languages, 6 nationalities Offices in Brussels, Besançon, Freiburg and Paris

Low energy cities

Changing behaviours In usages »Do I turn my heating sooner off? In the technological choice »Do I choose to drive a car or to ride a bike? In the decision-making process »Do I make decisions unilaterally or collectively?

Engaging in changing behaviour

Växjö (SE) SAMS, Consumption evaluation tools »Consumption measurement and comparison

Energie-Cités provides a tool… … for local communication campaigns on municipal buildings energy performance The European Display® Campaign > 400 local authorities > 11,500 buildings > 20,700 posters

IMAGINE network To change thinking patterns

Rennes (FR) » IMAGINE label

In the end, it‘s all about me! Do ICTs have changed my behaviour?

It‘s all about me ! I „own“ 2% of a car I own 0,2% of the books I read If I lived in Paris, I‘d „own“ 0,5% of a bike I shop online I read newspapers online I telework ICTs offer opportunities to better share »... leading to more energy efficient behaviour

Do we need ICTs for that ? No, and yes ! ICTs can help objects to be more efficient ICTs can help some usages to be more efficient But we need to look at the whole urban system (which is more than the sum of ist objects...)... and couldn‘t ICTs also lead to deny responsibilities ?...

Thank you for your attention! Stéphane Dupas
