ESTABLISHING NORMS IN A PLC Why PLC Teams Teams bring together complimentary skills and experience that exceed those of any individual. A team can make decisions, solve more complex problems and do more to enhance creativity and build skills then individuals working alone. We increase capacity when we work together rather than in isolation.

ESTABLISHING NORMS IN A PLC Why should we create norms? Norms can help clarify expectations, promote open dialogue, and serve as a powerful tool for holding members accountable. Teams improve their ability to grapple with the critical questions when they clarify the norms that will guide their work. Inattention to establishing norms is one of the major reasons teams fail.

ESTABLISHING NORMS IN A PLC What is a norm? A set of operating ground rules that… govern individual behavior ensures that all individuals have the opportunity to contribute in the meeting facilitate the work of the group enable the group to accomplish it’s task hold members accountable

ESTABLISHING NORMS IN A PLC When Establishing Norms Consider: Time: Beginning and End time Start and end on time Listening How will we encourage listening How will we discourage interrupting Decision Making: How will we make decisions How will we deal with conflicts

ESTABLISHING NORMS IN A PLC Things to Consider: Participation How will we encourage everyone’s participation Expectations: What will be expected of members How will we deal with members when they don’t follow Norms Attendance Expectations
