Project Wrap-up Module 5 Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 1

The Project is Finished Now What? A Post-Implementation Review (PIR) is a review and assessment of the completed working project It asks “Did we achieve what we set out to do?” Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 2

Purpose of a PIR There are three purposes for a Post-Implementation Review: To understand the extent to which the project met its objectives, delivered benefits, and addressed the requirements originally defined To learn lessons from this project which can be used by the team and the organization to improve future projects To look at the overall effectiveness of all elements of the project to see if further improvements can be made Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 3

When Should I do a PIR? A PIR should be done no more than 2-9 months after the completion of the project It should allow enough time for benefits to be realized and results measured It should not allow so much time that the results cannot be used to assist other projects Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 4

Who should be Invited? The Project Manager and/or Project Sponsor is ultimately responsible for the PIR Key project members (subject experts) People impacted everyday by the results Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 5

Discussion Question: Based on the case study - who would you include in the Post Implementation Review of this project? Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 6

How do I host a PIR? Book a meeting with your team Bring a list of the objectives you set at the beginning of your project Brainstorm how effective you were at achieving these objectives Consider Scope, Budget, Timelines, Quality, Change, Risk With the input from your team, draft a PIR using the PIR template provided in your toolkit Distribute to your immediate supervisors Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 7

Small Group Activity Based on the additional information provided, complete the table (PIR Template) for the case study Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 8

Lessons Learned Now that we have looked at where we were successful in the project, and where we fell short, what have we learned? What can we do better in our next project? These are lessons learned. Eg: Order materials at least 3 months in advance of construction start up Lessons learned will help us make future projects more successful Project Wrap Up Post Implementation Review - Module 5 9
