Citizen Corps Citizen Corps Mission Statement  The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. Your Picture? What will Citizen Corps Councils do? Devise community emergency preparation and response plans Provide local firefighters & police an extra line of defense Educate children what to do if there is an Emergency Meet community needs in emergency preparedness in many diverse way…. and?

GOALS FOR CITIZEN CORPS COUNCILS: Personal Responsibility: Personal Responsibility: looking out for family and neighbors; have a emergency plan for home, school and work. Training: Training: disaster awareness and emergency preparedness; importance of disaster preparedness plans and kits in homes, business, and vehicles. Volunteer Service: Volunteer Service: Citizen Corps provides the infrastructure for getting citizens involved in supporting the first responders in their community.

CITIZEN CORPS COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP A collaboration between:  Leadership from an elected official  First responder such as medical, fire or police  Community organizations  Volunteer groups  Businesses, industries or institutions

 Neighborhood Watch Programs (NWP) Integrates awareness and education into existing crime prevention and serves as a way to bring residents together to focus on disaster preparedness and training.  Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) Community Provides support for police departments with volunteers  Emergency Response Team (CERT) Trains people in neighborhoods, schools, workplaces in basic disaster response skills in emergency preparedness  Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Coordinates volunteer health professionals to provide support for community during emergencies PROGRAMS of CITIZEN CORPS
