5 Survey Findings “Following a major disaster, do you and your family members feel prepared to survive on your own for at least 3 days?”  50 percent responded “Yes”  38 percent responded “Somewhat” prepared When asked if you were away from home, “Did you feel confident your family can survive on your own for 3 days?”  40 percent responded “Yes”  10 percent said “No”  45 percent responded “I think so” Angela Nak, ICPO- Survey of 42 members

9 Build a Kit  Flashlight  Food and water for 3 days  Extra pair of sturdy shoes  Towelettes, garbage bags & plastic ties for sanitation  Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities  Manual can opener if kit contains canned food  Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place  Important Family Documents  Items for unique family needs, such as daily prescription medication  Whistle to signal for help

10 Citizen Corps Get Involved Mission Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. Goal Get community prepared to respond to emergencies Increase volunteer and first responder collaboration Engage local leaders, citizens, network of first responder organization, etc.

11 Citizen Corps Get Involved Objectives: Match the needs of first responders Educate the public on safety Offers citizens new and existing volunteer opportunities Promote all Citizen Corps program and activities Capture and share innovative practices Survey the communities
