Creating Portal Pages Once your community has been created, you may start creating other objects inside it. To create a new page, go to your Community, click the “My Communities” dropdown, then click “Edit This Community.

Creating Portal Pages The “Edit Community” screen opens. Click the “New Page” button. Remember, you can always click on “Help” to get context-sensitive online information.

Creating Portal Pages As with communities, pages must be based on a template. Two page templates have been created for you and are preset to the standard layout options with the mandatory Bread Crumb portlet already placed on the page. Note: If you are designing pages that may be easily viewed on screen resolutions starting at 800x600, you will want most of your pages to be only 2 columns wide. With a 3- column page, the middle column is only 335 pixels wide when viewed at 800x600, so the amount of content and/or size of images that can be placed in the middle column is limited.

Creating Portal Pages Search for your agency page templates by keying in “agency-name page” in the Search box. For example “OA Page”.

Creating Portal Pages Select the desired page template by clicking on the radio button, then click “OK”.

Creating Portal Pages If your page is to inherit the Template, leave the Inherit box checked and click OK

Creating Portal Pages The new page will show in the Community Pages list with the name New Page. Click on the page name (New Page). The page has been created with the required portlets already placed on it.

Creating Portal Pages Next, click on the ‘Properties and Names’ link.

Creating Portal Pages Name your page and give it a description. Note the Class and Object ID below the description. As with communities, the portal tracks pages by their IDs, not by name. The ID for this page is

Creating Portal Pages Before saving, click on the Security link in the Edit Standard Settings area to review the ACL for the page. Before saving, click on the Security link in the Edit Standard Settings area to review the Access Control List (ACL) for the page.

Creating Portal Pages Delete yourself from the Security Settings list. As the creator of the page, you already have Admin rights.

Creating Portal Pages Note that the ACL has exactly the same settings as it did when you created the community. This is because any new object you create inherits the ACL of the containing object (plus, the creator is added as an Admin). The containing object for a page is the community. Had you added any groups to the community when it was created, those groups would automatically be added on the page, with the same privilege settings.

Creating Portal Pages Click Finish to save the security settings.

Creating Portal Pages Click the Finish button to complete the page.

Creating Portal Pages One additional page has been created in your community. It is based on a pre-defined template that includes the mandatory Bread Crumb portlet and your agency’s navigation portlet.

Creating Portal Pages To take a look at the page you’ve just created, click on the My Communities tab at the top/right of the screen and select your community from the list. If you don’t see your community in the dropdown list; select Join Communities and search for your community. Select it by placing a check in the box beside your Community and clicking finish. Now look again in the My Communities dropdown list.

Creating Portal Pages Left Navigation and Page Names Hiding Pages can be useful when you do now want the page to show in the Left Navigation. For example, the Home page is the default landing Page on your Community and you really don’t need the left navigation to show a link to it; selecting the Community name will take you to the Home page. Some other examples would be to use a Hidden Page that contains the "Intrinsic Search Results" portlet that will be used to display the results of the search. You would also use a Hidden Page with the Redirect Portlet.

Creating Portal Pages All left navigation portlets in the portal have been built to HIDE pages where the name starts with either “Home” or “Hide”. Thus, the following page names would not be displayed in the left navigation: Home Hide – New Page Hide – News Archives The page names below WILL show up in the left navigation: Home Page Home Buyers New Home Hidden Page

Creating Portal Pages You now have a new page on your Community. Next you will want to add content to your page through the use of Portlets.
