The 29 Arabic alphabetic letters

Main Makhaarij There are 5 main categories of Makhaarij : 1. The oral cavity Al Jawf اﻟﺠَﻮفAl Jawf 2. The throat Al Halq اﻟﺤَﻠﻖAl Halq 3. The tongue Al Lissaan اﻟﻠِّﺴَﺎنAl Lissaan 4. The lips Ash-shafatain اﻟﺸَّﻔَﺘﺎنAsh-shafatain 5. The nasal cavity Al Khayshoom اﻟﺨَﻴﺸُﻮمAl Khayshoom

The 3 rd main makhraj : Al- lisan (tongue) This is the makhraj that the majority of letters come from (18 out of 29) That is why we call it the speech tool There are 10 sub – makhaarij in the tongue

1 st sub – makhraj of the tongue From the deepest part of the tongue and what lies opposite to it of roof of the mouth(the soft palate) Only one letter comes from that sub – makhraj which is ( ق ) Examples: لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ اْلقِيَمَةِ – إِقْرَءْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقْ – خَلَقَ اْلإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقْ – إِقْرَءْ وَرَبُّكَ اْلأَكْرَمْ – قَدْ أَفْلَحَ اْلمُؤْمِنُونَ

3 rd sub – makhraj of the tongue From the middle of the tongue and what lies opposite to it of roof of the mouth(the middle of the palate) Three letter come from that sub – makhraj which are( ج،ش،ي )

Examples on the 3 rd sub – makhraj ج : وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ – تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِن سِجِّيلٍٍ - َكَذَالِكَ جَعَلْنَاكُم أُمَّةً وَسَطاً – مِن يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ – َالجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ش : وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا – مِن شَرِّمَاخَلَقَ – وَبَشِّرِالصَّابِرِينَ – لئِن شَكَرْتُم – لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُون َ - وَأَمْرُهُم شُورَى بَيْنَهُم ي : يُرَاؤُنَ – يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ – يَابُنَيَّ أَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ – يَاأَيُّهَاالنَّبِيِّ - مُصَدِّقًا لمِاَ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ مِنَ التَّوْرَةَ – وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَمَة
