DEFINITION Nasal sounds occur when a complete closure is made somewhere in the mouth, the soft palate is lowered, and air escapes through the nasal cavity.

THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF NASAL SOUNDS
BILABIAL SOUND: Total closure is made by both lips. ALVEOLAR SOUND: The tongue blade closes against the alveolar ridge, and the rims of the tongue against the side teeth. VELAR SOUND: The back part of the tongue against the soft palate, the back part of the roof of the mouth.
