Performance PLG Pressure Surge Assurance Update 7 September 2011

2011/12 Pressure Surge Assurance What have we done so far? Completed London wide pre winter risk assessment (see “heat map” – slide 2). Updated and circulated ED Policy v4 (go live date 3 rd October). Completed and circulated 2011/12 Management Guidance. What comes next? Updating of plans. Joint Exercises (ONEL / ELC – 21 Oct, NC / NW – 19 Oct, SE / SW – 12 Oct). Risk assurance review. Management of winter. Review Process NHS London Performance team will join Clusters in reviewing high risk trusts. Clusters should liaise with heads of performance over arranging meetings and should arrange for evidence to be sent in good time to performance managers to review. Building on last years experience, it is suggested that Clusters should meet with NHS London colleagues to discuss the high risk Trust evidence together, before jointly participating in a Cluster led review meeting with the Trusts. For high risk Trusts, Clusters may decide to request additional evidence to that listed on the evidential checklist. Winter Leads Conference calls booked bi-weekly in August and September to ensure cohesiveness of assurance approach and actions under the Pressure Surge Planning (PSP) process, plus peer support and problem solving / sharing of ideas and good practice. Conference calls will move to weekly from late September, focusing on PSP assurance and seasonal Flu campaign. Calls will escalate up to daily, including DoPs or deputies, depending upon the escalation level and decisions required as winter progresses, as set out in the 2011/12 Management Guidance.
