Educate Advocate Support Internship Program First Look Purpose: Response to Oct 11 RP/SP mtg request to re- examine the old Under 40 Directors Program Accelerate the development of leaders in AFA Expose young, emerging leaders to all levels and activities of AFA in order to inspire them to serve as leaders of the Association Forty or under should be the target audience, but the age may be waivered by the VCOB-FO if it makes sense to do so 4

Educate Advocate Support Internship (Cont) Prior to entry into the internship program, candidates should have experience in chapter leadership and will be required to take basic AFA leadership development training modules, when available, as determined by the Field Council Structure– a one year program Select interns prior to Sep National Convention Interns attend Oct RP/SP meeting- orientation to field leadership issues Interns attend Dec BOD orientation program o EXCOM, Fin Comm, National Staff exposure 5

Educate Advocate Support Intern (Cont) Structure (Cont) Interns assigned as members to one national council or committee Interns assigned a mentor Intern attends Sep Board (and EXCOM?) meeting and participates in convention as a delegate Selection Seven interns the first year…potential to grow to 14 Candidates agree to serve, submit application Candidates nominated by RPs 2 per region FC sub-committee selects seven best of nominees, approved by BOD 6

Educate Advocate Support Interns (Cont) Tracking Post graduation interns are encouraged to serve at chapter/state level Encouraged to continue on council/committees FC sub-committee will track the progress of graduates– are we getting results? Cost Estimated $3k-3.5k per intern ~ $ k per year, total Discussion Intent is to field this program this year! 7
