I am consistent, structured, and have high expectations for behavior Classroom Management I am consistent, structured, and have high expectations for behavior Positive Behavior Incentive School (PBIS) When our students are caught using ROAR behavior they earn dragon bites. Respectful On-task Acting Safely Responsible When our class fills their dragon bite jar the class will get a reward. When the school fills Roary’s jar the entire school will get a reward.

Class Rules We are RESPECTFUL by listening when someone is talking. We are RESPONSIBLE by following directions quickly and quietly. We stay ON TASK so that we can complete our jobs. We are RESPECTFUL by raising our hands to speak. We are KIND and SAFE with our classmates. We ACT SAFELY by using classroom tools and materials carefully and appropriately.

Shinning Star Your child will have a turn to share an All About Me Poster. They may also bring in their favorite book to share with the class. The students love this! Your child should be prepared to talk about their poster. All of the posters will go home at the beginning of the year. Return it by September 6th.

Birthdays If you celebrate birthdays we will sing to your child and your child will get a birthday pencil from the office LCPS policy states that we do not allow edible treats or favor bags for birthdays. If you are planning a party and would like to invite your child’s classmates, you can use the class directory to contact all the parents Summer and holiday birthdays can be celebrated on their half birthday or the date of your choice.

Book Orders We will be sending home scholastic book orders every few months. Optional Great way to get your child excited about reading We need a parent to help coordinate this.

Communication Email: cathy.Polanski@lcps.org I try to check emails when I am not teaching during the school day. I will reply as soon as possible. If you have important information, especially a change in dismissal, please call the school. (703)957-4390 Don’t forget about SeeSaw Please call the attendance line to let them know if your child will be absent Also check out Arcola web page and our class page Arcola Elementary

Volunteering-It takes a village I have been known to have 3 parents in my room at one time. I ask each parent to volunteer at least once in the classroom. Children benefit from having their parents in the classroom. We will work out any separation issues We can do so many more amazing things with your help

Volunteering-It takes a village Room Parents (Multiple parents share these duties) Will be responsible for ……… planning and running special events Making class directory- Occasionally helping with school wide projects Helping with small groups for reading or math in the classroom.

What can you do at home? {We do not give homework in Kindergarten-But Reading, and Practicing Sight Words is Important} Give your children the opportunity to color, cut, paste, write, and read at home. Read Poems from Shared Reading Book Utilize KidsA-Z(Raz-Kids) – and Dreambox information will come home soon Practice Handwriting Practice Sight words….play games Visit the Library!!!! Great websites to explore~ http://www.abcya.com/ www.starfall.com http://pbskids.org/
