Practical Team Sports

UNIT OUTCOMES 1. Understand the skills, techniques and tactics required in contrasting team sports. 2. Understand the rules and regulations of 2 contrasting team sports. 3. Apply the skills, techniques and tactics used in 2 contrasting team sports. 4. Evaluate their own performance in one of their selected team sports. 5. Evaluate the performance of an individual in one of their selected team sports.

DEFINITIONS Warm up activity In pairs discuss and come up with and write down a suggested definition for the terms, SKILL, TECHNIQUE & TACTIC. Extension activity Discuss the difference between a technique, a tactic and a skill and why they might sometimes get confused. In 3 minutes we will share and compare your thoughts. LO 1: Define the terms Skill, Technique & Tactic.

DEFNITIONS A skill is the learned ability to perform actions often with minimal time & energy. A technique is a method used to accomplish a specific skill. A Tactic is a strategy or game plan where skills and techniques are applied in specific situations to achieve an outcome. Think What, How & When/why.Think What, How & When/why. LO 1: Define the terms Skill, Technique & Tactic.

TASK 1 Pick 2 mainstream team sports such as Football and Doubles Badminton for example. Identify & describe 5 different skills, techniques and tactics for each sport. Extension – Explain in detail with relevant examples. Complete pages 2-4 in your class booklets. LO 1: Describe the Skills, Techniques & Tactics for 2 team sports.

TASK 2 Describe the main rules and regulations of your two chosen sports. Conduct some research using sources such as Complete page 5 in your booklets LO 2: Describe the rules and regulations for 2 team sports.

Task 3 - Pages 6 & 7 Describe 3 situations in each of your two chosen sports where a key rule or regulation would apply. Then describe the responses and impacts of the rule/regulation for each situation. Extension: Explain in detail with examples. LO 2: Describe how the rules and regulations for 2 team sports are applied in different situations.

Learning Outcome 3 Participate in your two chosen team sports, for example in two mini tournaments or formal games etc where your tutor can observe you and take photos of you demonstrating the key skills, techniques and tactics relevant to the two sports. You and your tutor will complete the observation record in your on-line platform assignment as evidence for LO:3. LO 3: Demonstrate associated skills, techniques and tactics in two team sports.

Task 4 Think about your own personal ability and performance in the two team sports you participated in for task 4 and assess yourself. Complete a S.W.O.T analysis focusing on your performance in each sport. Extension: Help your peers to SWOT themselves. LO 4: Conduct 2 forms of performance assessment in 2 sports.

TASK 5 Again thinking about your own personal ability and performance in the two team sports you participated in for task 4 and assess yourself. Complete performance profiles on your performance in each sport. Extension: Help your peers to SWOT themselves. LO 4: Conduct 2 forms of performance assessment in 2 sports.

TASK 6 Looking at the results from both your SWOT and performance profile, what do they tell you? Swap with a partner and discuss what you think they indicate about each others performance. Provide detailed explanation and examples of your results on page 11.. LO 4: Explain the results of performance assessment in 2 sports.

TASK 7 Read and discuss the questions on pages with a partner to share some ideas. Then answer them as honestly and in as much detail as possible to show you can think critically about your personal performance and how you can improve. LO 4: Analyse the results of personal performance assessment.

TASK 8 & 9 Observe an individual (this can be in your team or another) playing a sport and complete a SWOT and a Performance Profile on their performance. You should provide a link to the video you are using in your online assignment e.g. Youtube or Showbie etc LO 5: Conduct performance assessment on a team.

Task 10 Using the results of the SWOT and performance profile you completed on the team, interpret them by explaining with examples what you think the findings mean. LO 5: Explain the results of team performance analysis.

TASK 11 & 12 Consider the results of your team performance assessment and critically analyse your findings by answering the questions on page 18 in detail. LO 5: Analyse the results of team performance analysis making recommendations for improvement.

Assignment Guidance Use this booklet to help you with your online assignment typing up the basic points of information you have hand written into as much detail as possible. Don’t forget to take photos of: The completed observation record for Task 4 – LO:3. You demonstrating skills, techniques & tactics in two team sports for LO:3. (These need annotating when uploading). All performance Profiles in your booklet (not SWOT – this should be typed up). All your photographic evidence will need uploading to the relevant places in your online assignment as evidence.
