Lines And Signs

Shapes There are eight different shapes of signs. Octagon-Stop Triangle- Yield Vertical Rectangle- Regulatory Pentagon- School Round- Railroad Crossing Pennant- No Passing Diamond- Warning Horizontal- Guide

Colors Red- STOP Yellow- Warning White- Regulatory Orange- Construction Black- Regulatory Green- Guide Blue- Motorist Service Brown- Public Recreation

Stop Signs Used on a road that crosses a main highway or a through street. Always come to a FULL STOP.

Yield Means to allow others to use the intersection before you do. Right of way- if another driver on the through street must slow or stop after you leave a stop sign or a yield, than you have not yielded the right of way.

Regulatory Signs Tells you about laws that you must obey. EXAMPLES STOP Signs Yield Signs One Way Signs Speed Limits Signs

Warning Signs Yellow, diamond-shaped that warns us of dangers ahead BE PREPARED to slow or stop when you see a warnings sign

Other Warning signs School Signs No-Passing Signs Constructions Signs Railroad Signs

Guide Signs These signs mark routes, intersections, service areas, and other point of information Route Signs

Traffic Signals All Traffic signals have specific colors. Red- Stop Green- Proceed only if the intersection is clear Yellow- Make Every effort to stop safely

Flashing Signals Arrows Alerts drivers to dangerous conditions Traffic must flow in the direction that a green arrow is pointing.

Other Signals Lane Signals Pedestrian Signals Officer’s Signals

Roadway Markers White Line Markings Broken Lines- Traffic Moving in the same direction you may cross these broken white line when changing lanes. Solid Line- May not change lanes, shows where changing lanes may be dangerous.

Other white Lines Pedestrian crosswalks Stop lines Painted arrows to show which direction the lane goes.

Yellow Markings Yellow lines- Separates two way traffic. Broken line- May pass only if no traffic is coming Solid Line- Passing is not allowed.
