I Deserve Respect RESPECT means accepting others as they are and showing you care about their physical and emotional wellbeing. ©2017 ChildBuilders

I Have the Right to Be Safe SAFETY means freedom from physical or emotional harm.

I Have the Power to Choose Each of us has a CHOICE about how to respond to unsafe situations. Stay calm and in control in order to think it through and make a choice that respects yourself and others.

I Will Get Help Sometimes a situation is too unsafe or a problem is too big to handle alone. GET HELP from a trusted adult, and keep telling until you get the help you need.

Ray’s Story

Lesson 1 11/30/2019 What Should Ray Do? Choice 1: Choice 2: Ray can give up her hoodie to fit in with the group. The hoodie is important to her, it’s part of her identity, but is it more important than having friends? Ray can refuse to give up her hoodie. It would be cool to be popular, but it’s not worth it if it means changing who she is.

Liona’s Story

Lesson 1 11/30/2019 What Can Liona Do? Choice 1: Choice 2: Liona can laugh along with Volt because he doesn’t mean to hurt anyone. He is just trying to be funny. It would hurt his feelings if she told him he was being unkind. He is Liona’s friend, and she should support him. Liona can tell Volt he is wrong for making fun of a classmate. It is not kind to laugh at other people for your own amusement or for acceptance.

Lesson 1 11/30/2019 Optional Slide – Use this slide if you plan to do this activity as a whole class and wish to have the questions visible on the board without handing out a worksheet.

Lesson 1 Setting Boundaries 11/30/2019 I feel ________ when you ______________. Please don’t do that again. Volt, I like being your friend, but I feel angry and hurt when you make fun of other people. I won’t hang out with you if you do that. I feel sad when you make fun of other kids because it is unkind and hurtful. I will not sit by you if you keep laughing like that.
