6 What Are Boundaries? Safety Rules we create for ourselves.
We all have personal boundaries. When your boundaries are crossed, you feel disrespected and unsafe.

7 When Volt’s Boundaries Were Crossed…

8 Boundary Language How do you know whether you are crossing someone’s boundaries? What if they don’t tell you assertively? What if they don’t tell you assertively? Volt’s face Volt’s behavior – he isn’t wrestling back.

9 Boundary Language WORDS making passive or aggressive statements that tell how they are feeling. FACE are they showing sadness, anger, shame, embarrassment, or other negative emotions? BODY are they standing in a passive or aggressive stance, or trying to get away? What if they don’t tell you assertively? Volt’s face Volt’s behavior – he isn’t wrestling back.

10 Consent: Giving Permission
Request Consent Does this cross your boundaries? Is this OK with you? Give Consent Decide if it is OK. If it is, assertively say Yes, this is OK with me. If it is not OK, assertively say No, this is not OK. Withdraw Consent If you give consent but then decide it is not OK anymore, say Stop.

13 Consent Demonstration
First, decide who will be Partner 1 and who will be Partner 2. Partner 1 chooses an action. Partner 1: Request Consent “May I __?” Partner 2: Give Consent Decide if it is OK. If it is, say, “Yes, this is OK with me.” Partner 1: Perform the Action Partner 2: Withdraw Consent “This is not OK anymore. Please stop.” Partner 1: Respects Boundaries “Ok.”
