ACEC Designer Training Standard Details Good Afternoon, This Segment is about DPW Standard Details.

As far as DPW Standard Details, We have only have six detail up on the City website and one that will be upload soon. I will talk briefly on the seven details. At the end of presentation there are list of links for both INDOT and DPW Standard Details and other links.

This replace plan detail is a little different then INDOT, DPW add more bars across the traffic land 10 spa. @ 1’-0”

The following three details are PCCP Joint Repair Details. Just a few quick notes on the PPCP Joint Repair Details: The repair work shall consist of partial depth patching and bottom-half patching at PCCP joint cleaning and sealing of joints and cracks beyond areas of PCCP joint repair, profiling, underseal, and retrofit load transfer in accordance with 105.03.

Anticipated time for opening to construction equipment or general traffic is less than seven calendar days, and the ambient temperatures are anticipated to remain at or above 60°F during the cure time.

Joints shall be sealed with joint sealing materials in accordance with the sealant manufacturer’s recommendations, within ¼ in. below the surface. Transverse and Longitudinal joints shall be sealed with hot pour joint sealant.

The next two details are Hybrid Ditch, one is Up to 5’ depth and the other is Greater then 5’ in depth. Construction requirements shall be in accordance with the applicable sections of the City of Indianapolis Stormsewer Design and Construction Specifications Manual and INDOT Standard Specifications. Method of Measurement for Hybrid Ditch, regardless of depth, will be measured by the linear foot, complete in place. Measurement will be made along the centerline of the perforated pipe from the centerline of structure to the centerline of structure. No deduction will be made for manholes, inlets, catch basins, street crossings, drive approaches or on street parking over the pipe.  

Excavation above the trench bottom elevation shown on the plans will not be measured for payment. Additional excavation below the proposed trench bottom elevation required to install the pipe at a lower elevation or to remove rock or unsuitable material will be measured in accordance with 203.27(b)   The follow will not be measured, Pipe, B-borrow, Engineered soil mix, Aggregate and, Geotextile used to wrap backfill material. Both Hybrid Ditch, up to 5’ and greater than 5’ are paid by LFT.

Base Repair Detail Make sure the difference between base failure and surface failure *depending on when things are designed compared to when construction is planned, might need to add extra base repair tonnage to compensate for the road deteriorating more after design but before construction.(This seems to always happen) *milling first does not always cause less base repair.  For instance on our resurface project, with milling first, we were able to see more problems that were not seen with surface on.(It did help in some spots, but overall, there was more base repair).

Speed Humps Detail was approved by the Pay Item committee this past month and has not been uploaded to the City Web site yet. Description of this work shall consist of the construction of Speed Humps in accordance with 402 Hot Mix Asphalt, HMA, Pavement. Construction Requirements The speed hump shall be twenty-four (24) feet in length for the width of the roadway (typically twenty-four (24) feet), with the following characteristics: Height of three (3) inches, Since this location is on a local street flat top is not need. Six (6) foot transitions on both the near & far sides, One (1) foot transitions on both curb sides Pavement markings shall be in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Method of Measurement Speed Humps (all types) will be measured by the each. And Transverse Making are paid in Lft.  

Petition for New Pay Item for detail. If for some reason you as the design need to add a DPW Pay Item detail please use the following form. Filled out the form just you would when filling it out for a new pay item, however no need to answer the questions below. Under “Petition for New Pay Item” type in the name and a brief description of the new detail and include a example of that detail.
