Common Core Standards: SL.9-10.2, SL9-10.5 Friday, May 3rd, 2019 Aim: How can we compare and contrast the film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (1996) to Shakespeare’s original text? Objective: Students will be analyzing the choices directors make when adapting a work of literature into a film. Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) What differences between the text and the movie do you expect to see and why would these events be portrayed differently? OR 2.) How do you think a movie director who is working on an adaptation of a text decides what he is going to include or exclude in his film?

Common Core Standards: SL.9-10.2, SL9-10.5, Friday, May 3rd, 2019 Aim: How can we compare and contrast the film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (1996) to Shakespeare’s original text? Objective: Students will be analyzing the choices the director made and comparing them to the choices that Shakespeare employed in his writing. Agenda 1.) Do Now: Answer one or both questions, and turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share with the class. 2.) Movie Viewing: Together we will watch the 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and compare it to Shakespeare’s text. Looking at both will help us better understand the play. 3.) Reflection: How did watching the movie reinforce your understanding of the play and its events so far?
