Friday, May 3rd, 2019 Common Core Standards: RL , RL and SL Aim: How can we compare and contrast the film version to the original text of Fences? Objective: Students will analyze the film of Fences and identify comparisons and contrasts to the original text, which will enable them to be successful in composing their thematic essay. Do Now: Choose one of the following questions. 1.) What differences between the text and the movie do you expect to see, and why would these events be portrayed differently? OR 2.) How do you think a movie director, who is working on an adaptation of a text. decides what he is going to include or exclude in his film? *Show any owed HW.

Friday, May 3rd, 2019 Aim: How can we compare and contrast the film version to the original text of Fences? Objective:: Students will analyze the film of Fences and identify comparisons and contrasts to the original text, which will enable them to be successful in composing their thematic essay. Agenda A.) Do Now: Answer the Do Now. Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: -Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Film Viewing: As you’re viewing the film, identify comparisons and contrasts between the film and the original text. Also, identify evidence to help you compose your essay on the symbolic fences or the theme of the American Dream in the play. D.) Q & A/Reflections: Exit Slip

3 Comprehension Check: How well you understand the tasks today: Analysis of comparisons and contrasts between the film and the original text of the play. Identify universal messages of the American Dream and the symbolism of fences in Wilson’s play, Fences SELF-ASSESS: How easy/ difficult was that task?
