Regional Math Tournament Loudoun County Regional Math Tournament Information Night NLE PICO – Kareena Nair August, 2018

Loudoun County Regional Math Tournament Loudoun County Regional Math Tournament is a ONE DAY EVENT (8:45am to 1:30pm on a weekend) and is held during spring time (usually 2-6 weeks after last MOEMS test in March). Only 4th and 5th Graders who have participated in 2018-19 MOEMS can register for the Regional Math Tournament through the school. Registration fees is approximately $65 depending on how many teams are formed and remaining PTO budget. The fees is NON REFUNDABLE. Each School Team can ONLY have a total of 5 team members. Multiple teams can be formed. Registration will be considered in multiple of 5 only (i.e. if 24 students register, then only first 20 will be considered to form a total of 4 teams) Registration for Regional Tournament will open in January 2019. Date TBD. PICO will form the team based on Olympiads performance of Nov, Dec, Jan tests Parent volunteer is required per team to coach their respective team Please be advised that your child will most likely have a different coach and will be going to 2 different coaches for Olympiads and Tournament practice in February and March.

Regional Math Tournament Test Format Each School Team competes in 3 rounds – Individual round – This round consists of ten problems with first being the simplest and last being the hardest. There is a 30 minute time limit to complete the test. Each team member participates individually. Their individual scores are totaled towards overall team score. Each correct answer is 1 point so team can score up to 50 points in this round if everyone gets 10 correct answers Team round – This round also consists of ten problems with first being the simplest and last being the hardest. There is a 20 minute time limit to complete the test as a team. The scores are totaled towards overall team score. Each correct answer is 3 points so the team can score up to 30 points in this round if they get 10 correct answers Play-off/Tie-Breaker round - There is a tie-breaker round for individual and for team round. If an individual or team has a tie with another individual or team, they enter the tie-breaker round to determine the winner.

Awards & Ceremony: Individual Scorer Trophy or Medal is awarded to the top 5 students with the highest score in individual round Team Award Trophy is awarded to the top 3 teams with the highest cumulative scores of individual and team round Certificate of Participation is awarded to every participant Award Ceremony at NLE will be held during 4th quarter of school year
