Welcome to Open House! Mrs. Rossi’s Prek 2016-2017

-Please fill out the Parent Information Sheet. Welcome to Open House! Here are a few things you can get started with while you wait for our presentation to begin! -Please fill out the Parent Information Sheet.

Drop Off and Pick Up AM Preschool 8:50 to 11:25am Drop off between 8:45 - 8:50 am at the main doors. Pick-up is at 11:25am at the main doors. For PM Preschool 12:30 to 3:05pm Drop off is between 12:25 -12:30 pm at the main doors. Pick-up is at 3:05 at the main doors. If you are late to drop-off: go with your child to the main office for a late pass, they will call the classroom and someone will come and get your child to bring them to class. If there is a change in pick-up, please write a note, or call the office. This person will need his/her ID.

Communication Folders We will send home notices and communication logs in your child’s folder. Please return folders and communication logs daily. Feel free to send notes in the folder.

Birthday Celebrations Snack Time Daily, during center time. One healthy snack please. You can send in a water bottle but no juice please at snack time. No nuts please. Please put you child’s snack and water bottle in a lunch box or labeled bag. Birthday Celebrations Healthy snack or non-food item Birthday Invitations- please invite all children in the class, or all boys/girls

Plans for the school year! This year we will be working on Kindergarten Readiness skills such as: Identifying letters Counting to 20 or higher Identifying numbers 0-20 Writing their name Cutting with scissors

Preschoolers learn through play! Here are some things your child is learning when they think they are “playing” in a center. Block Center Gross motor control Engineering and designing Math skills Positive social interactions and teamwork Art Center Fine motor control Creativity Appreciation of the arts Drawing and writing

Sensory Center (water/sand/light etc.) Dramatic Play Center Imagination and fantasy Encourage language development Practicing life skills and experimenting with future roles Positive social interactions Acting out personal experiences Sensory Center (water/sand/light etc.) Explore mathematical concepts: volume, estimation, and measurement Physical sciences: Energy, force, motion, matter and its properties Promote sharing and cooperative problem solving Fine motor control Engineering and designing

Library Center & Story Time Compare and order events Show an understanding of books Display knowledge of books and print Identify printed words Writing Center Use complex sentences and vocabulary to describe ideas and experiences Use writing to convey meaning Draw and paint to represent own ideas (while illustrating)

Science and Exploration Math Center Use coordinated small-muscle movements Problem Solving Sorting, organizing, categorizing, and labeling Recognize and make patterns Relate number to quantity Science and Exploration Engage in scientific inquiry Caring for plants and animals Use complex sentences and vocabulary to describe ideas and experiences

Second Step: Skills for Social and Academic Success Through this program we will develop skills for learning empathy, emotional management and problem solving. We will also be working in conjunction with our school social worker Ms. Levandoski.

Recess is a time for learning too! Gross motor control Positive social interactions and teamwork Turn taking Please remember: We will have recess daily on wood chips. We suggest closed toed shoes for safety and comfort. They will be going outside unless it is extremely cold or raining so please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather. If it is raining they will have recess in the classroom.
