New Class Your child has enjoyed spending time in their new classroom with their new teacher today. They will take home a slip of paper with their new teacher’s name on at home time today. Your child has chosen 3 friends that they would like to be with – they are with at least 1 of those friends in their new class.

The Classroms Both Miss Farrah’s and Mrs Buss/Mrs Graves classrooms will have the partitioning wall open This will make 1 large classroom where children will work in groups with their teacher, and will also have access to the outdoor area and other activities throughout the day You can bring your child in on that first day to help them find peg/shoe box and have a look at the Y1 area

Weekly Events Reading books and journals in when finished and signed – this does not need to wait until Friday. Spelling test – every Friday PE – Every Thursday afternoon- please label clothing and provide tape for earrings Please bring water bottles Gold Book

Important Information Year 1 and Year 2 children are in Key Stage 1 School Lunches are free throughout Key Stage 1 Your child will be given a free piece of fruit each day. Please make sure your child has a pair of indoor shoes to change into- these will need a name in.

Important dates Autumn Term: Wednesday 4th September – Back to School Friday 6th September – ‘Wow Day’ – children to come to school wearing bright clothes/circus outfit to introduce our ‘Circus’ topic Tuesday 17th September – Meet new teacher and Stay and Read session Monday 14th October – Parents Evening Tuesday 15th October – Parents Evening Friday 25th October – break up for half term

Expectations in Reading Reads accurately by blending sounds in unfamiliar words Reads common exception words eg: and but it Reads aloud accurately books that are consistent with their developing phonic knowledge Develops pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by: 1. listening to and discussing a wide range of poems, stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently; 2. becoming very familiar with key stories, fairy stories and traditional tales. Understands both the books they can already read accurately and fluently and those they listen to by: 1. checking that the text makes sense to them as they read; 2. as they read, correcting inaccurate reading; 3. discussing the significance of the title and events; and 4. predicting what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far.

Expectations in Writing Begins to form lower-case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place Names the letters in the alphabet and know the order. Introduces capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks to demarcate sentences. Able to make phonically-plausible attempts to spell words that have not yet been learnt and can form individual letters correctly. Able to form letters correctly and confidently. To begin to use some of the distinctive features of standard English in their writing.

Expectations in Maths Counts to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or one, or from any given number Counts, reads and writes numbers to 100 in numerals; counts in multiples of twos, fives and tens Given a number, identifies one more and one less Represents and uses number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20 Recognises, finds and names a half as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity Tells the time to the hour and half past the hour and draws the hands on a clock face to show these times

What happens if you have any questions/worries throughout the year?
