Lettermark Typography-based logo Typically comprised of a few letters Simple Focuses on initials or abbreviations of longer names

Wordmarks Typography-based logo Focuses on business name alone Works really well when a company has a distinct name

Pictorial marks Icon or graphic-based design Simple Minimal color palette (often just one)

Abstract logo marks A specific type of pictorial logo Abstract or geometric form

Mascots Colorful Cartoonish Illustrated character that represents a company

Combination Mark A logo comprised of both a pictorial/abstract mark and a lettermark/wordmark

Emblem Consists of font inside a symbol or an icon; think badges, seals and crests. Traditional appearance 

Watermark a faint design made in some paper during manufacture, which is visible when held against the light and typically identifies the maker.
