WARM UP – February 23 ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS IN YOUR NOTES: What was the name of the pamphlet written by Thomas Paine? What did Thomas Paine hope to accomplish with this document? Who are the men in “all men are created equal’? Who does this leave out? Who was put in charge of formally creating a document declaring the colonists’ independence? What is this document called?

Recall Early in Revolution After “Common Sense” Colonists fighting for more rights from the King Colonists fighting for INDEPENDENCE

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE Look at the Declaration of Independence Which section is the longest? Why do you think Thomas Jefferson focused on this part the most? Think about organization– why did Jefferson save “declaring independence” for the last few lines?
