STANDARDS AND LEARNING GOALS GA: Grade 7 Life Science S7L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to investigate the diversity of living organisms and how they can be compared scientifically. a. Develop and defend a model that categorizes organisms based on common characteristics. b. Evaluate historical models of how organisms were classified based on physical characteristics and how that led to the six kingdom system (currently archaea, bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and animals).

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES- (WORK SESSION) 1. Vocabulary practice- word list : animals • archae • asexual reproduction •autotroph • bacteria • eukaryotic • fungi • heterotroph • multicellular• plants• prokaryotic • protists • sexual reproduction • taxonomy • unicellular 2. CURRENT EVENTS SCI WORLD practice activities on reading analysis skills 3. Class daily practice worksheets 4. Use digital media to discuss and see real life examples. Resources used -PBS -media center dvd - khan academy -Discover Education

STUDENT WORK 1. Save work samples from previous week. Conduct or share work peer to peer and with Tuning Group 2. Digital media presentations with note taking and summarizing. 3. small group working on vocabulary exercises. Matching, crossword and cryptogram activities. Pair and share work time. 4. Textbooks use- read 1 lesson per day. Complete reading lessons and quiz that follows. We are working on Chapter 1 Classifying. CELL PHONES ARE NOT USED IN CLASS. THE USE OF CELL PHONES IS CAUSING MISSED ASSIGNMENTS OR INCOMPLETE WORK RESULTING IN FAILING GRADES.

ASSESSMENTS/RUBRICS 1. Pre and Post quiz results on lessons. 2. Evaluation of VOCABULARY worksheets in class. 3. Summative test of standard based questions used for this year to date. multiple choice test given Thursdays weekly. 4. current sci world reading activity check sheets.

FOCUS QUESTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK What evidence will be collected to document student learning ----------Summative test YTD standards -------------Worksheet practice 2. What are the opportunities to increase learning? -----------Classification activities ----------Science magazines written for middle school students
