1 Organization of Living Things
Kingdom Foldable

2 the process of grouping things based on their similarities.
Classification the process of grouping things based on their similarities.

3 the scientific study of how living things are classified.
Taxonomy the scientific study of how living things are classified.

4 When biologist classify organisms they look at the following characteristics:

5 organisms that are composed of only one cell.
Unicellular organisms that are composed of only one cell.

6 organisms that are composed of many cells.
Multicellular organisms that are composed of many cells.

7 Prokaryote an organism whose cells do not have a nucleus and some other cell structures.

8 Eukaryote an organism whose cells do have a nucleus and some other cell structures.

9

10 Heterotroph an organism that cannot make its own food.

11 Autotroph an organism that makes it own food.

12 Sexual Reproduction the reproductive process that involves two parents who combine their genetic material to produce a new organism, which differs from both parents.

13 Asexual Reproduction the reproductive process that involves only one parent and produces offspring that are identical to the parent.

14 Domains and Kingdoms Domains Bacteria Archaea Eukarya Protists Fungi
Eubacteria Archaebacteria Protists Fungi Plants Animals

15 Kingdom Archaebacteria
Unicellular Prokaryote Autotroph OR Heterotroph Asexual Reproduction

16 Archaebacteria are found in extreme environments such as hot boiling water and thermal vents under conditions with no oxygen or highly acid environments.

17 Kingdom Eubacteria Unicellular Prokaryote Autotroph OR Heterotroph
Asexual Reproduction

18 Most eubacteria are helpful
Most eubacteria are helpful. Some produce vitamins and foods like yogurt. However, other eubacteria, Streptococci, can give you strep throat!

20 Kingdom Protists Unicellular OR Multicellular Eukaryote
Autotroph OR Heterotroph Asexual Reproduction

21 Protists include all microscopic organisms that are not bacteria, not animals, not plants and not fungi.

22 Kingdom Fungi Unicellular or Multicellular Eukaryote Heterotroph
Asexual Reproduction

23 Fungi are organisms that biologists once confused with plants, however, unlike plants, fungi cannot make their own food. Most obtain their food from parts of plants that are decaying in the soil.

24 Kingdom Plant Multicellular Eukaryote Autotroph Asexual and
Sexual Reproduction

25 Without plants, life on Earth would not exist
Without plants, life on Earth would not exist! Plants feed almost all the heterotrophs (organisms that eat other organisms) on Earth. Wow!

26 Kingdom Animal Multicellular Eukaryote Heterotroph Sexual Reproduction

27 Members of the animal kingdom are found in the most diverse environments in the world. 1 million known species.

28 6 Kingdoms of Living Organisms
