Water Quality Vocabulary Oct 18, 2011 Water regulations- laws that have been passed to protect water quality in the US and North Carolina. The Clean Water Act- A law passed in 1972 that focused on protecting surface waters such as lakes and rivers.

Water Quality Vocabulary Oct 19, 2011 filtration- the first step of water treatment. Passing water through a screen to remove large particles. floc- Alum is added in the second step of water treatment that cause sticky globs called flocs to form from suspended solids.

Water Quality Vocabulary Oct. 20, 2011 Coagulation- the process of water treatment where particles stick to flocs and then sink to the bottom. Concentration- the amount of one substance by certain volume in another. Water has limits in concentration of certain substances.

Water Quality Vocabulary Oct 21, 2011 Septic tank – an underground tank that contains bacteria to treat household wastewater.( Contain scum or used water and sludge or solid matter ) Leach field- the area in the yard that contains the used water from septic tank pipes.
