Perugia SuperB Workshop June 16-19, 2009 SVT- Status Major issues to be resolved and status of the R&D necessary to resolve them. Perugia SuperB Workshop June 16-19, 2009 Giuliana Rizzo Universita’ & INFN Pisa G. Rizzo SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009

SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009 R&D work reorganized to prepare a baseline for TDR with: Layer0 based on hybrid pixels R&D still needed Layer1-Layer5 similar to BaBar SVT Layout Optimization & Design Hybrid Pixels Hybrid pixels hot issues: 50x50 mm2 pitch + fast readout First front-end chip & pixel sensor in production in Sept. ‘09 First lab test Feb ’09 Testbeam with sensor connected Sept. 2010 (bump-bonding schedule not yet clear) Light pixel module support & cooling prototypes support under test now Pixel module interfaces Front end analog cell design ongoing S/N ~ 100 for 200 um thick sensor Fast readout architecture optimized for Layer0 rate of 100 MHz/cm2 VHDL simulation shows Efficiency > 98 % Small chip (4k pixels) layout is starting G. Rizzo SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009

Pixel Module Interfaces Light material high speed (160 MHz) and high track density pixel bus needed: requirements in competition! First prototype submitted for production (CERN PCB shop) First test Fall ‘09 Simulation with present design encouraging Several options under evaluation for the link HDI- DAQ board Fast (3<->20Gbit/s) & “rad hard” link ( depending on the location) Mixed technology solution (Cu+Optical link) affordable for a baseline option with 3 GBit/s (store data in HDI until LV1 trigger decision arrives): Test setup under construction with the various components to validate them G. Rizzo SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009

SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009 Other issues Safety factor 5 for background rate (from pair production) is enough? SVT mechanics and IR need to be designed to allow an “easy”/”fast” removal of Layer0: for replacement of Layer0 when needed Engineering of the more “standard” part of the detector still to start (L1-L5 & support structure): getting organized with a quite little manpower G. Rizzo SVT Status – SuperB Workshop, Perugia June 19 - 2009
