Wednesday, August 10, 2016 Learning Target: I will develop an understanding of what good readers do. Today’s Agenda: Journal #1 What Good Readers Do

Wednesday, August 10, 2016 What Do Good Readers Do? Do they do more than read black and white letters on a page? What are some of the things you do that help you understand what you are reading? Mentor Texts– Why do we use them? As you read today’s selection, I want you to think about what you are doing as you read. Be ready to report out any strategies you used to understand the text. Purpose for Reading: What is the main idea of the story?

Tuesday, August 9, 2016 Homework for Parents It is so important to me that we work together as a team and know each other well! In order to start that off, I have a homework assignment for YOU!  In 1,000 words or less, write a letter that introduces your child to me. I get to know the “student” side of your child, but I know that there is much more to him/her. Please know that I am only reading it for content – I am not concerned with grammar or spelling, and it can be in any language! This assignment can be turned in as soon as it’s finished, but is due on Monday, August 15, 2015. Letters may be sent in with your student or emailed to the teacher. Even though there is a “due date,” I will accept these letters at any time during the year! Due: Monday, August 15th, 2016

Tuesday, August 9, 2016 Independent Reading Selection You will need to have a book with you at all times during 7th grade. These books will be used in both your reading class and your language arts class. You are free to choose whatever book you like for reading. Your language arts teacher may have specific genre requirements at different times during the year. I am requiring that my classes have their books no later than Monday, August 15th. We will have time in all of the reading classes this week to check out books during our Media Center Orientation. All of my classes will complete their orientation on Friday, August 12th. Due: Monday, August 15th, 2016
